12 [ San Manuel Miner August 6, 2014 O By John Hernandez San Manuel Miner The Mammoth Historical Society (MHS) received a donation of artifacts from Richard Calvin of Mammoth. Richard found the items while digging on his land along the San Pedro River. His property is in the area that was once the mill for the Mammoth St. Anthony mine. The artifacts are believed to be from the mill which would make them over lOO years Miners h old. These are the first historical items that the Mammoth Historical Society has received for their museum. The Oracle Historical Society also received a couple of the artifacts. Oracle has historical ties to Mammoth and the mine and mill that were established there in the late 18oos. William "Curly" Neal had the contract hauling ore by wagon to the mill, gold bullion to the bank and supplied wood for the mine operations. The Mammoth Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the history of the Town of Mammoth and the lower San Pedro River Valley region for present and future generations. MHS is looking for historical artifacts and photos of Mammoth and the lower San Pedro Valley.
